"Fire and Ice" is a nice looking hosta, but a really slow grower. You will be surprised how slowly it grows in comparison with other, "mainstream" hostas. It must have taken many long years to achieve the size of the plant shown in the catalogue photo. So, I would recommend this hosta for the small spaces where one doesn't want a specimen that would grow too quickly and require frequent pruning. In such spaces the few leaves that it produces may provide an interesting, striking contrast with other plants. However, if you need a robust ground cover to chock up the weeds, Fire and Ice would not be a good choice. Find something faster growing!
