Reliable year-round interest.
This unique iris bears small, soft lavender blooms in late spring, but the show doesn't end there. When the flowers fade, clusters of large, orange-red seedpods take their place. The seedpods split open to reveal stringy groups of beadlike, bright orange seeds that are very showy. These seedpods remain until the next spring. Evergreen variegated foliage forms tidy mounds that add yearround texture and colour to borders and beds. Foliage is unpleasantly aromatic if bruised or cut, hence this perennial's nickname, The Stinking Iris.
