Cyclamen

The beautiful butterfly-like blooms and heart-shaped leaves of Cyclamen plants are perfect for adding color and beauty to those challenging shady spots in the late summer-early autumn landscape. Cyclamen plants bear dozens of dainty pink flowers in soft blush shades and deep, dark tones that are at their gorgeous best when most flowering plants have ceased to bloom. The attractive marbled leaves remain evergreen during the winter, die back in spring and then reappear later on. Equally at home both indoors and out, cyclamen flourish in locations with full to partial shade as well as in cooler environments. Hardy in zones 5 through 8, Cyclamen are deer resistant and can tolerate a variety of soil types, from clay to loam and sand, as long as the drainage is good. These long lived beauties look stunning at the feet of trees and shrubs, are great for rock garden settings and container gardens.
