This multiple award winner is recognizable by the striking bright red flowers that open on 10 cm stems just above its narrow, greyish-green leaves. The petals form a 3 cm wide, bowl-shaped bloom that displays a hint of black at the base, adding to its unique beauty. Also known as the flax-leaved tulip, it naturalizes well and attracts butterflies, honeybees and other pollinators. This Tajikistan native received the Royal Horticultural Society's renowned Award of Garden Merit in 1993.
